Three-quarters of mobile phone subscribers are wasting an average of nearly £200 a year because they are on the wrong contract, research suggests.

The national billmonitor mobile report based on the analysis of 28,417 anonymised mobile phone bills and their usage, compared against 8,530,118 mobile phone contracts available in the UK on March 2011:

    • 76% of UK mobile subscribers waste £4.899 billion on the wrong mobile contracts
    • Just 5% of UK post-pay customers are responsible half the total spend on average
    • The data of customers of all the main networks, except 3.

People over-estimating how many minutes they would spend on the phone was the main reason for the overpayment, wasting nearly £5bn a year, with most using just a quarter of their monthly allowance.

As well as those customers opting for excessively large talk plans, the researchers found that many others were signing up to deals that were too small and then being hit with punitive charges for going over the limits.

Billmonitor was created and is run by a group of Oxford University mathematicians & Dr Stelios Koundouros, one of the company’s founders, believes the reason behind that choice was psychological – by selecting a lower plan, users were able to convince themselves that they could run their phone more cheaply, even if their final bill did not reflect that.

Taken together, Billmonitor calculated that these two groups – those who underestimated their usage and those who overestimated it – were wasting £4.9bn per year, which works out at £194.71 each for such customers.

The team has developed models for analysing complicated systems where a large number of variables need to be considered & has calculated that, in the UK, there are a total of 8,134,979 different contract permutations on offer to mobile phone customers.

Billmonitor’s comparison system, which is the only one to be approved by telecoms watchdog Ofcom, compares users’ real-life bills to the available deals. If you think you could be one one of the 76% of people on the wrong contract, analyse your mobile bills with billmonitor and find out!!

After a solid 12 months end quarter, Motorola Cell Phones No Contract plans to continue staking its state to the smartphone industry by releasing an unprecedented twenty smartphones in 2010. The company did extremely nicely last yr creating cell phones for instance the Droid for Verizon Mobile phones as well as the Cliq for T-Mobile Cellular phones at the same time as No Contract Cell Phones. Using the 20 cell phones slated to come out this yr includes a Google gadget that is going to be sold directly to consumers as opposed to one offered via the carrier. This has become a much more well-liked move in recent years, take the Google Nexus A single for example and Motorola Mobile phones was fast to jump on board with the concept.

Yes, the mobile gadget market is rebounding and many if not all organizations expect great points in 2010. But to obtain earnings they will require items and it appears as though Motorola Cellular phones has no shortage of individuals. We the consumers might believe of 2009 being a “testing the waters” kind of yr for Motorola Mobile phones. Nicely, following a positive reception from the general public, the business hopes to go from “testing the waters” to taking a marketplace share with the smartphone industry. In other words, they really feel they are ready to dominate the industry. But 20 cellular phones in a one year, is this oversaturation, over ambitious, in basic a poor concept.

Likely it’s not. Why you ask? Nicely, think of what twenty cellular phones can achieve in a solitary 12 months. The organization can focus a handful of phones for the company demographic, one more couple on multimedia aspects for the young audience, a few camera mobile phones, some cross over devices; fundamentally, a little bit of every thing. But they will also be able to explore new tips, particular niches, get a grasp on various technologies, test the waters with innovative ideas although nevertheless turning a profit with previously proven products. With twenty mobile phones inside a single yr they can permit a flop or two, but imagine if some with the more experimental tips don’t flop, instead they’re great achievement stories? Nicely, then they’ve done probably as well as they can anticipate. And I assume this could be the logic behind the launch of so numerous devices. So assume that a broad array of phone inside of that 20, not just 20 nearly identical devices.

It’s now safe to say that the market for cell phones is essentially just a smartphone industry. You can find really couple of simple handsets left and that’s why there is this kind of a scramble to make a name for a company within the changing marketplace. It’s now or by no means. This could well be the 12 months that decides which cellular phone makers will be a force within the coming years and what businesses will focus on other projects completely. Certainly it feels as though Motorola will stake its state amongst the big boys from the industry.
